*************** Meet "Kathy" **************
Kathy Sacchiero, WUCC’s new Minister of Music, was born in Prescott, Arizona, but her family moved shortly afterward to New Jersey. Her father, Harold Gietz, was a Lutheran minister, and as a result of his calls, the family moved from Fort Lee to Trenton, where Kathy grew up. After graduating from Trenton High School, she went to Montclair State College where she majored in music with an emphasis in vocal music, piano, and organ. She met her future husband Ronn Sacchiero, who was also a music major at MSC. They were married in January of 1966, and just celebrated their 40th anniversary. The Sacchieros are the proud parents of two sons, Christopher and Todd.
Mrs. Sacchiero began her teaching career in 1973 at the Sandyston-Walpack Consolidated School, completing her 31 years of teaching as the vocal music teacher at Jefferson Township Middle School. Kathy, however, was never far from the church work she began in her teens at her father’s church in Trenton, and ultimately became the Music Director at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, serving a ministry of nineteen years. After a short hiatus, she began a ten-year ministry as Music Director at Abiding Peace Lutheran Church. Her music background and her desire to make music a relevant part of worship resulted in a diverse repertoire from the classics to some of the more contemporary Christian praise music.
Kathy is very proud to have been selected the Teacher of the Year in Jefferson Township, and was subsequently selected for inclusion in “Who’s Who in American Teachers.” Besides the many concerts she has conducted in both school and church, she has also directed scores of Broadway musicals at JTMS.
Her son Todd and his wife Melissa have presented the Sacchieros with their first grandchild, Madison Rose, and a second (a grandson this time) is on the way in December.
Kathy is excited about this newest part of her music ministry journey at WUCC, and is looking forward to working with the choir and Pastors Robin and Jeff. She was made to “feel at home” by the warm welcome she has received at WUCC, and feels blessed to be a part of this important part in its history.
