Food Pantry doubles in size and a new Hospitality Center (to be named at dedication on June 24, 2018 at Noon)
Aided by a Communities of Hope grant from the United Methodist Church of Greater New Jersey, our scout troop and individual and business partners in Wharton, the Wharton United Community Church at St. John’s (WUCC) will more than double the size of its food pantry throughout this Spring. WUCC’s expansion of this vital ministry will add a new a hospitality center which will serve as a brainstorming center for community-led partnerships and projects. Partnering with the NJ Food Bank and Shoprite of Wharton, a loyal group of volunteers load in over 1000 lbs. of food weekly to the pantry and its organization and partnerships require over 80 volunteer hours/week. It provides food – meat, bread, vegetables and pastries for a steady 50 families per week and more than 5000 persons per year The pantry serves the residents of Wharton and hopes in the future to expand its reach to the surrounding communities. The dedication of the new mission center and our 1 year old community garden, with town officials and business leaders, constituents and members of WUCC will be on June 24th at 12 Noon at WUCC. All are welcome to attend. If attending, the pantry requests nonperishable food items be brought. The Wharton United Community Church is located at 20 Church Street in Wharton, NJ. It is a federated United Methodist and Presbyterian Church.
WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: Every Monday, we load in 1500 lbs of food from Shoprite. Every Wednesday we distribute food to 50 families from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and 6:00-7:00 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the Church office at 973-366-8140.
